You've probably watched hundreds of tiny videos on websites - it's tedious. Democracy Player makes video on the internet less frustrating and more enjoyable. You can subscribe to channels of internet video, download videos, and watch them fullscreen, one after the other, all in one application. Internet video becomes internet TV. It's free and open for everyone to watch and broadcast.
Features of Democracy Player 0.9.6.1 :
- Subscribe to Channels: Democracy has a built-in Channel Guide, an open catalog of hundreds of free channels. Subscribe to any channel with a single click.
- Download from Channels: After you subscribe to a channel, pick videos to download individually or set the channel to automatically get new stuff as it comes out (like a Tivo).
- Watch Videos: Lean back and watch your new videos in full screen at your convenience. Democracy plays lots of video formats.
- Auto-Download: Set your favorite channels to Auto-Download new videos as soon as they are available. You'll always have something new to watch.
- RSS is everywhere: Democracy can subscribe to any video RSS feed (video podcasts). Look for 'Subscribe' buttons on your favorite web sites.
- Seamless Bittorrent: Democracy seamlessly integrates Bittorrent and doesn't leech.
- Fullscreen: Lean back and watch fullscreen.
- New Items: A blue circle next to a channel means new videos are available for download. Green circles mean new videos are ready to watch.
- Manage Videos: My Collection lists all the videos you've downloaded and can be quickly searched.
Changes in Democracy Player 0.9.6 :
- Folder watching (what I just wrote about above).
- Resume playback. If you’re watching a 15 minute video and stop halfway, we’ll remember where you were when next time you watch it. There’s a preference setting to turn this on and off.
- Auto-updating for Mac users. This should be the last time that Mac users will need to go to their browser to download a new version. From now on, when a new version is released you’ll be able to install it within the app and relaunch (we’re now using Sparkle). Windows users don’t have auto-update yet, but we’ll be able to give you details about what’s new in each release from within the app (right now it just tells you that there’s a new version, with no details).
- Minimize to tray on windows– when you click the red x in the upper right, the application will hang out in the system tray. A much requested feature.
- Windows Vista compatibility. This solves playback issues for some Vista users.
- Resizing of thumbnails. We now resize and cache thumbnails so that the images displayed are smoother. This also makes switching between channels much faster.
- More thorough proxy support.
- Ability to play audio files on mac (previously we sent you out to an external player).
- Many more keyboard shortcuts on Windows. This will make remote control support easy. Full keyboard shortcuts for Mac are coming soon with the first version of Miro.
- Bug fixes, memory use reduction, memory leak fixes.
